Its that time of year again, when we start to set resolutions to get fit. Figures show that over 67% of us make between 3 to 4 resoltuions in January. But how long do those resolutions actually last?

According to a recent survey that figure drops significantly to less than 30% by the end of February. So how can we keep to our plans?

Here are my top 6 tips for sticking with your New Years Fitness Resolutions

Make Yourself Accountable

Schedule in your workouts, in your diary, on your phone, as you would any other appointment. Don’t just rely on “I will workout today” Its so easy to talk yourself out of a workout. Make yourself accountable.

Join A Community

Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Everything is easier if you do it with a friend or a colleague. Begin your fitness journey together. It will definitely increase your chances of success. Or why not join an online community.

Professional Help

A great way to actually stick to your resolutions is to enlist the help of a Personal Trainer. They can help you reach a specific goal and find out whats right for you and your body. They can also help to maximise the time that you have available. And remember, If you can’t afford a personal trainer why not share the cost with a friend.

Be Realistic

Its great to set yourself goals but are they achievable? Its so easy to fall short and become demotivated when a goal is just too big for us to achieve.

Be mindful not to make your resolutions too big. Instead set small realistic goals that are attainable and achievable for you. Take small steps towards your goal

Allow For Flexibility

So many of us set ourself rigid goals without any room for flexibility. We forget that life has a habit of getting in the way of our resolutions.

Don’t beat yourself up, if you haven’t managed to stick rigidly to your goal.

Motivate Yourself

Motivation doesn’t last unfortunately. So It’s important to try and find ways to remotivate yourself.

Write down the reason you wanted to achieve your goal, what was it that stirred that emotion in you. Make is visual, write it down in your journal, Print it off and put it up where you can see it. A regular visual reminder of why you started a resolution can help to keep you motivated
